Epson today announced the Epson SureColor P400 13-inch photo printer. Designed for photography enthusiasts, advanced amateur photographers and creative hobbyists, the SureColor P400 combines an advanced MicroPiezo AMC printhead with next-generation Epson UltraChrome HG2 pigment inks driven by enhanced AccuPhoto HD imaging technology to produce consistent output with smooth gradations and exhibition-quality prints. The SureColor P400 also offers a comprehensive set of connectivity options including USB 2.0, wireless 802.11n, WiFi Direct and 100 Mbit Ethernet. The printer will be demonstrated for the first time in North America at PhotoPlus Expo, taking place from 22 –24 October at the Javits Convention Center in New York City, and is available now through authorised resellers for $599.

Epson have unveiled their wireless PictureMate PM-400 Personal Photo Lab delivering borderless 4" x 6" and 5" x 7" photos that are smudge, scratch, water, and fade resistant, and last up to 200 years. Featuring a 2.7-inch LCD screen and easy-to-use button formatting for intuitive set up and navigation – all without a PC – the "personal photo lab" offers a range of photo editing and custom printing options including Auto Photo Correction, removing red eye, printing classic borders or borderless, as well as the ability to print in black-and-white, color or sepia. Epson today announced the 24-inch SureColor P6000 and P7000, plus the 44-inch SureColor P8000 and P9000 printers. The SC-P7000 and SC-P9000 are available in a Commercial Edition featuring an all-new Violet ink for expanded color gamut delivering output matching 99-percent of the PANTONE FORMULA GUIDE Solid Coated. In addition, the printers are configurable with an optional Epson SpectroProofer UVS in-line spectrophotometer designed to provide automated colour management and verification-related tasks for a range of proofing applications. The SC-P6000/P8000 leverage the eight-colour UltraChrome HD ink and the SC-P7000/P9000 use the 10-colour UltraChrome HDX ink. Both professional ink sets deliver improved black density: the new Black ink is 1.5 times denser than previous ink formulation, providing significant improvements to overall contract ratio and optical clarity, the company says. The Epson SureColor P-Series will be available in October 2015.

Epson have announced a new, Wi-FI enabled A3+ professional photo printer. Combining a seven-colour UltraChrome HiGloss 2 ink-set and advanced connectivity features in one affordable package, the Epson SC-P400 boasts the smallest ink droplet size of any A3+ photo printer on the market today. For users who desire prints with a museum-quality appearance, the SC-P400 includes a fine art paper path that is extremely easy to use as it has a rear-loading tray. Printing on roll media is optimised with two roll paper holders that allow accurate printing on two-inch core media. If users require thicker photos, rigid media of up to 1.3mm are also supported. The SC-P400 will be available to buy from 1st November 2015.

Under its new EcoTank brand, Epson have launched five all-in-one printers featuring large ink reservoirs that come loaded and ready for up to two years of prints without replacing the ink. The WorkForce Pro WF-R4640 EcoTank All-in-One ($1,199), the WorkForce ET-4500 EcoTank All-in-One ($429) and the WorkForce ET-4550 EcoTank All-in-One ($499) are targeted at small and medium enterprises, whereas the Expression ET-2550 EcoTank All-in-One ($399) and the Expression ET-2500 EcoTank All-in-One ($379) are aimed at home users. The ET-2550 (pictured) features a 1.44” colour LCD screen, PC-free photo printing with a built-in memory card slot and Wi-Fi Direct technology.

Canon today revealed a new All-in-One inkjet printer, the wireless Canon Pixma MG3650. The new multifunction device, which replaces the MG3550, is designed to handle a wide range of wireless scanning, copying and printing tasks. Using the new Canon PRINT app, the Canon Pixma MG3650 allows you to print directly from Instagram and Slideshare, as well as upload scanned photos to Microsoft OneNote. The model also supports direct printing from a wide range of social and cloud services including Facebook, Flickr, Evernote, Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive. Users can also attach scanned files to emails and send them directly from the MG3650. The device will be available from September 2015 with an SRP of £69.99/€84.99.

Lasersoft has announced a new, paid upgrade for its SilverFast software, which incorporates a printer calibration tool. The ICC printer calibration utilises a flatbed scanner, whose colours are first adjusted with SilverFast’s patented auto IT8 calibration method, as a measuring device for profiling the printer. Users simply print a test chart using their printer and scan this chart with their IT8 calibrated scanner. SilverFast then calculates an ICC profile for their printer and the paper and ink combination. Those who already have SilverFast 8.5 for their scanner can purchase the upgrade for $99.
