Photoshop author Derrick Story is giving a webcast focusing on the important features in Photoshop CS4 for photographers. Taking place on Tuesday, December 16 at 10:30 a.m. PST, Story will demonstrate how to use Adobe Photoshop effectively for post production and also host an online Q&A forum. Those who attend the Webcast will receive 45 days complimentary access to The Photoshop CS4 Companion for Photographers on Safari Books Online and the first 10 registrants to attend will receive an autographed copy of the printed book.

The Nikon Solutions Expo professional photography show takes place next week. Held on 9-10th December at Olympia Conference Centre, London, Nikon Solutions Expo covers the complete photography workflow, from inspiration, to tips and advice on getting the right shots, to software processing and printing. A selection of high profile photographers will also be giving talks at the show, including Alex Bailey, Joe Cornish and Donovan Wylie. Photo Iconic is running two photography workshops with Intrepid Travel in London, UK. Taking place on Wednesday 10th December, the two courses are Creative digital photography and Travel photography with a digital camera. HP is running a series of free seminars, in collaboration with Magnum Photos, with workshops on the new HP Designjet Z3200 Photo Printer. The HP Photography and Printing Master Class Road Show will visit seven cities from London to Dubai between now and February. Each seminar will feature an inspirational presentation by a Magnum photographer followed by workshops focusing on the Z3200. Participating Magnum photographers include Thomas Hoepker, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Donovan Wylie, Patrick Zachmann, Carl De Keyzer and Martin Parr.
The Master of Professional Studies in Digital Photography degree is designed for working professionals looking to improve their skills in digital image capture. Starting in Autumn 2009, the one-year course takes a unique approach by combining web-based education with a summer residency. “This program is ideal for anyone who has a deep passion for exploring the confluence of photographic aesthetics and digital technology but can’t relocate to New York for a full calendar year of study. Ideal candidates include working photographers, photographic educators and fine artists” commented Katrin Eismann, photographer, author and chair of the MPS in Digital Photography Department. The online information session for the program will take place on Monday, December 8, from 6:30-8:30pm.

At a press conference hosted by Microsoft yesterday at 12:15 CET at Photokina, the Metadata Working Group (MWD) – an organisation which comprises industry giants Adobe, Apple, Canon, Microsoft, Nokia and Sony – published a set of guidelines for handling image metadata. This new set of guidelines is intended to be a specification “designed to increase interoperability and preservation of metadata in digital photographs”.

DSLR photography, printing and imaging is the focus of an eight-day workshop cruise in the Southern Caribbean. Taking place from March 29 -April 6, 2009, this eight-day workshop cruise is limited to 20 attendees who will participate in lectures, hands-on demonstrations and critiquing sessions by four photo professionals.
