Olympus has issued a firmware update for the OM-D E-M1 compact system camera. Version 1.4 incorporates the following improvements:
- AF response when using FourThirds lenses has been improved.
- Stabilisation of shooting in C-AF has been improved.
- Shooting images when using the remote control function of the smart phone application "OLYMPUS Image Share" now supports Art Filters, custom self timer, zoom operation when using the electric zoom, Digital Tele-converter, and Release mode.
You can update your camera's firmware via the free Digital Camera Updater utility.

B&H has started taking pre-orders for the Sony Alpha A7S full-frame compact system camera. Available from July, the 4K-capable Sony A7S sells for $2498 in a body-only configuration, which is only $200 dearer than the Sony A7R. The Sony A7S is a new 12.2-megapixel compact system camera with a 35mm full-frame sensor, 4K movie recording, a sensitivity range of ISO 50 to 102,400 (extendable to ISO 409,600) and an improved auto focus system that remains operational down to light levels as low as -4EV. Using data read-out from every single pixel of the 35mm full-frame sensor, the Sony A7S records 4K movies (24p and 25p) that are free from aliasing and jaggies. The camera's professional video functions include XAVC S Full HD recording at 50Mbps, time code and optional XLR audio inputs.

The Nikon 1 S2 is a new compact system camera featuring a 14-megapixel CX sensor and the world's fastest continuous shooting frame rates. Designed without an optical low-pass filter, and offering a wide 200–12800 ISO range, the Nikon 1 S2 shoots ten raw-format images at up to 20 fps with continuous autofocus, and at up to 60 fps with focus fixed at the first frame. Other highlights include a hybrid AF system with 135 focus points including 73 on-chip PDAF sensors, a 3" display with a resolution of 460,000 dots, 1080/60p movies, high-speed video recording for slow-motion playback, and microSD memory card compatibility. The Nikon 1 S2 will be available for around £380 / $450 for a single-lens kit. A double-lens kit including the camera, 11-27.5mm standard zoom and 30-110mm telezoom will also be available, priced at around £530 / $700.
Nikon has announced US availability and pricing information for the Nikon 1 J4 compact system camera. Announced in April, the Nikon 1 J4 is a new, WiFi-enabled compact system camera with an 18-megapixel CX sensor with no low-pass filter, a 1-million-dot 3" touchscreen, improved hybrid AF system and an aluminium housing. The auto focus system offers 105 focus points with phase-detection AF and 171 focus points with contrast-detect AF. The Nikon 1 J4 supports high-speed continuous shooting at approximately 20fps with AF tracking, and up to 60fps when focus is locked. Other highlights include a sensitivity range of ISO 100-12,800, Full HD 60p movies, improved Motion Snapshots and manual exposure modes. Available in May 2014 the Nikon 1 J4, kitted with the 1 Nikkor 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD-Zoom lens, will be sold at $649.95, while a kit with the 1 Nikkor 10-100mm f/4.0-5.6 VR lens will also be available for $849.95. Additionally, a double lens kit including the 1 Nikkor 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD-Zoom lens and 1 Nikkor VR 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6 lens will be available for $1,049.95.
Olympus has issued a firmware update for the Olympus E-P5 compact system camera. Version 1.4 adds a zero-second option to the Anti Shock menu setting, and improves remote control functionality when using the "Olympus Image Share" app. You can update the camera firmware with the help of the Digital Camera Updater software.

Samsung today announced the Samsung NX3000, the latest edition to Samsung’s award winning NX series of compact system cameras. Key features include an APS-C sized 20.3-megapixel CMOS imager, 3" flip-up display, 5fps continuous shooting, Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity and a top shutter speed of 1/4000s. The NX3000 will be available in White, Black and Brown, and will feature Samsung’s new compact 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 Power Zoom ED OIS lens. Availability is slated for June, with pricing to be communicated.

As the first female Fuji X-Photographer in the UK, Kerry Hendry has teamed up with Fujifilm and Aspire Photography Training to host three seminars in May, August and November. The first one-day event, entitled Becoming a Storyteller with the Fujifilm X-T1 and X-Pro1, is scheduled for 29th May and has a Midsummer's Night theme. "Woodland, fairies, amazing styling, a little bit of creative magic and Aspire fairy dust - it should be a really fun and creative training day." Kerry says. The Technical Image Press Association has recognised four Sony products with TIPA 2014 awards. The Sony a7R (pictured) has been named this year's Best Professional Compact System Camera, the FDR-AX100 has been chosen as 2014's Best Camcorder, the HDR-AS100V has won the title Best ActionCam, whilst the Sony QX series has emerged as the winner of the Mobile Imaging Device category.
Fuji has released a firmware update for its Fujifilm X-E2 compact system camera. Version 2.00 reduces the display lag of the electronic viewfinder to 5 milliseconds, which is less than 1/10 compared tothe current firmware. Furthermore, the update adds new colour options to the focus peak highlight function, allows face detection and EVF/LCD toggling to be mapped onto the Fn button, adds a 'Suppressed Flash' option to the flash settings, and fixes a bug related to film simulation bracketing.

The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) has honoured the dust- and water-resistant Fujifilm X-T1(read review) with its Best Expert Compact System Camera Award. The Fujinon XF10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens (read review) has been named 2014's Best Expert CSC Lens. This 15-36mm equivalent lens incorporates optical image stabilisation and has a newly designed optical system using 4 aspheric lenses and 3 extra low dispersion glass lenses.

The Leica T is a new mirrorless compact system camera. The Leica T–System combines pure design, handcrafted excellence, with an entirely new operating system. The Leica T features a large, APS-C-format, CMOS image sensor with over 16.5 megapixels (effective 16.2 MP). At the heart of the concept of the Leica T is the clear design of the touchscreen display. The Leica T is also the first system camera from Leica to feature an integrated Wi-Fi module.
Two lenses will initially be available for the market launch of the Leica T-System - the Leica Vario-Elmar-T 18–56 mm f/3.5–5.6 ASPH. and the Leica Summicron-T 23mm f/2 ASPH. The Super-Vario-Elmar-T 11–23 mm f/3.5–4.5 ASPH. wide-angle zoom and the Vario-Elmar-T 55–135 mm f/3.5–4.5 ASPH. telephoto zoom are scheduled to appear in time for presentation at Photokina 2014 in September.

Panasonic has received two awards from the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA). The Lumix GH4 compact system camera (pictured) has been awarded ‘Best Hybrid Photo/Video Camera’ and the Panasonic TZ60 (also known as the ZS40) ranked first as 2014's ‘Best Superzoom Camera.’
The Olympus OM-D E-M10 has been voted 2014's best compact system camera (CSC) in the entry-level category by the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA).
