I usually shoot all my photos in RAW mode and use the camera supplied software to convert. I recently read about some free software in Digital Photo camera mag, and decided to give it a try.
It is called Pixmantec Rawshooters Essentials 2005.
I am truly amazed at this little program. The results and speed are fantastic.
Why is it free? No idea. I assume that it is aimed at selling their other products.
Try this link

I simply downloaded the trial version, and it is fully functional.
If you shoot in RAW this is a must.
Perhaps Mark Goldstein knows of it or can review it.

Yes it does Chris, until recently I used photoshop to convert my raw files. But this program gives so much more control and it is seriously fast. Great for browsing. There is a very good tutorial on how to get the best from it. I'm hooked. Give it a try.

RawShooter is seriously good software, develpoed with the help of pro photographers, for handling RAW file fast. The aim is for ease of use, quick workflow and a rich feature set. I have been using the 'Essentials' version (free) throughout 2005 and it eats Photoshop alive (for RAW file handling only). Even used just as a browser, the free version is worth the dpwnload. You do have to register as a user with Pixmantec to get the download link but then it's free to use
The 2006 'Premium' version is now available and this usually sells for 99USD. As a long time registered user of Essentials, I got an offer from Pixmantec to buy Premium before 31st Dec 05 for 79USD however I see that your own valued PhotographyBlog has an offer on the News page today for 69USD ............. well done Mark Goldstein ........ we are not worthy
Cheers, Dave B.
