you now need to decide other factors before you can choose a camera.
The main things you need to consider are size, zoom and image quality.
Zoom + viewfinder = DSLR-Like Super Zoom, like the Panasonic FZ100, Canon SX30 of Fuji HS10.
However, that means you're giving up on a small sized camera.
Image quality + viewfinder = Canon G12 or Nikon P7000.
G12 is an excellent choice, having a long pedigree of G cameras, but it lacks a large zoom range.
The P7000 could tick all your checkboxes, but it is new on the market, and has not proven itself yet.

Buying a G12 just for auto mode is kind of missing its point (and wasting money).
If you're going to learn, I mean seriously, then it could be worth it.
About the viewfinder - only you can say.
As a DSLR viewfinder only shooter, I work with the S95 just fine.
