I am looking for help in deciphering the various numbers that are listed on a particular minolta lens that I have. I have no manual to go by. All I know is that it is a 50MM lens. I am trying to sell it and am not sure what the various #'s mean. Any assistance that can be rendered would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Rayab. Typically on a 50mm lens you will find (often around the front optic) info like '49mm f1.7'. The 49mm refers to the filter size it takes and the 1.7 is the aperture - 1.7 is a wide aperture (a fast lens, good for low light/high speed subjects) and the higher this number, the more light you need.

Yes, I agree with TonyB that with this higher number you will get more light in your pictures.
