Hi there. My 11 year old son has outgrown his compact digital camera. He does a lot of stop motion animation and we would like to upgrade his camera, keeping the cost around $200. I've been looking at the Fujifilm Finepix S4000, S3200, S2940. He would like the a camera that has the look and feel of a DSLR camera and not the compacts with the retracting/hidden lens. Any suggestions?

for that price bracket you should be able to get him a sony A100 Dslr off ebay its the first dslr i bought and i still use it as a backup in my professional work so rather than getting him a dslr alike why not buy him a dslr?
