I have a Sony a37, first new digital camera since I took up digital about 3 yrs ago,
I am attempting to work out "Bulb" and exposure up to 30 seconds,
with each photo in long exposure for example 10 mins, when this is done I then have to wait the same amount of time for it to process within the camera,
is there a setting I am missing to prevent this wait period?

hi
If you look in your instruction manual on page 99 you will see that long exposure noise reduction will take place for the same amount of time the shutter was open and no other function can be done until it's finished.
You should be able to turn noise reduction off in the menus, this may result in noisier images at long exposures but there is noise reduction software available if the results aren't acceptable to you, hope this helps.
