I have a Nikon Coolpix L23 which has frozen with the lens half-in, half out.

I had thought it had happened because the batteries had run out just as I turned the camera off - but have put new batteries in & turned it on/off, still stuck.

When I turn it on there are repeated short 'whirs' before the camera turns itself off again.

Christmas prezzie from the Mrs, so don't want to tell her I've broken it! Help . . .

Try gently nudgg the extended(stuck) lens to one side by hand. (the side which had the gap.) Hear a click sound and the lense housing fell back in place? Then switch off and switche on again.
