Power Shot 2? I've never heard of that camera before...
As an aside, I never format my memory cards via my PC - always do it in-camera.

Please be sure to format to the correct FAT system.
I thing FAT16 is the one to use.

Anyway, ALWAYS REFORMAT the card with your camera for best results

I've heard it make sense to reformat the card regulary for speed of access
