This is a great new invention, a device that allows almost any camera to be set off remotely from any direction using any remote control. I am not sure what the plans for production are, but I am sure that if the guy who invented it gets enough feedback (engineering@vflabs.com), he will make it available for sale.

I highly recommend that you check it out!

This is too impractical for my purposes. Wouldn't it make more sense to make an IR triger that would plug into the same spot where a cable release normally goes? Granted not all cameras have a cable release input, but anyone looking for this feature is probably not buying a low end consumer point and shoot camera.
