Has anyone tried the Tomron 28-75 2.8 xr Di. I just got mine for $309. The lens is compact, sharp, and fast. Works great with the canon 300d. Contrast is outstanding. This lens is even sharp wide open. Two thumbs up.........Frank

I bought it from ebay about two months ago - also use an EOS 300D... not really impressed with it, its not Canon 'L' quality anyway... my mates got a copy which is better than mine so I know its capable of a lot more.
I phoned up the UK Tamron distributor yesterday and explained I think it needs looking at, the guy told me that they can be tweaked for performance, i.e. you can set the lens to perform better with a 300D or 20D. So i'm posting it off, looking at £50 to have the thing 'optimized' and serviced, as its second hand.
Hoping that when it comes back it will be as good as everyone elses.
