Hi, I have just tonight discovered this site and feel very inspired by everyone's photos. I am fairly new to taking photos that are more than just holiday snaps. I will start putting some of my favourites into a gallery soon; any tips on uploading or scanning. I use a Cannon EOS 500 film not that new but reliable and will suit until I think I have improved enough to justify spending some money on myself.
I have just given my son a Cannon EOS D30 for his upcoming 21st and admit to wanting to have kept it for myself. I have just done an evening course at my local adult eduction college and really enjoyed it as well as getting to know some interesting people. I loved the dark room experience, one reason for sticking with film.

Hi Denise
I'm sure you will enjoy this site.
Main thing to watch will be your file sizes. Hope you are familiar with resolution. This is how much detail in the photo. To print a photo you will need a minimum resolution of 300dpi but if you are simply viewing on a computer screen then 75 dpi or more is ok (100dpi is probably better).
When you scan, there may be slight differences in colour, tone, etc., so photo editing software is pretty useful. Most popular are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Elements and Paint Shop Pro. But there are lots of others, some free to download.
A good magazine is "Digital Photo" if you are starting out. It covers all the above from time to time and sometimes even includes free programs.
Hope I havent confused you. Post back here for more help. There are lots of people with helpful suggestions here.

Denise, welcome to the BLOG. I'm sure you're going to get a thrill out of somebody telling you you've taken a nice photograph. Please don't get discouraged if you post a photo and nobody replies. I'm sure we all have to have that happen at least once. It's not that there's anything wrong with the photo, it's just that people have a lot of them to look at, comment and suggest on, and everybody has to streamline the tasks as best we can. So, some of our stuff gets overlooked.

The nice thing is, once it's in our gallery, somebody can come along months from now and still offer a comment.

The other thing you should be notified about is told in great detail in a couple of these open discussion topics. Please read the threads concerning multiple uploads, too many pictures uploaded, anything in that vein. There's a tendancy for new people to put a lot of work on at once (hey, we're excited, right?), and that pushes folks off the front page.

Can't wait to see your stuff. smile.gif
