Hi folks,

I've been playing for a good few months with my Canon EOS300D, and have some great prints from it. But in the "old days" of film, I used to take slides quite a lot. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get slides made from digital files at a reasonable price? Like under a fiver each! (I'm in the UK).

Any suggestions would be welcome. smile.gif

Thanks

Geez, I can't say I've ever heard of such a service but you can bet it wouldn't be cheap. Round here (Grand Rapids, MI) we've got a place called Corporate Color that does all sorts of imaging stuff--I've used them to get photos from some slides I took and they also do presentation work, process film, and print signs and banners for companies. Maybe you've got a place around you thats similar? Could a Kinkos or other copyshop do something like this? Hmm, regardless, like I said i'd expect it to be pricey. (I don't know if they're comparable, but slide-->8x10 ran me round $15-20 a print if i remember correctly). Have you considered perhaps buying some sort of projector that you could hook up to a computer? As long as you images get on a screen, does the medium really matter?

Hi

Thanks for your suggestions. The reason I need slides is to enter them in various salon competitions I enter. Some have digital sections, and more will no doubt do so over time, but a lot are still requiring work on traditional film. If I give up originating on slides, I'm a bit stuck for new work to enter!

Mark

You're a star! I had stumbled across Micro-Quiz's website a while ago, via a link from the Smethwick PS website, but when I went back to the SPS site it had gone! So I'm really pleased you pointed this out, thanks.

Will send them a CD of a few choice pics and see what comes back. This could solve a lot of my "should I take it on slide or digital" dilemmas!

Cheers

In case anyone else is wondering, I thought I'd let you know that I had the slides come back from Micro-Quiz in about 3 days, and they are great! I deliberately sent files which were tricky in terms of colour, contrast and detail etc, to see just what I'd get for £1.25 each. I have to say I'm very impressed; their printing to emulsion has coped with everything very well, and not bad for that price!

So, it could be time to say goodbye to the film body for good.... although that will be a hard decision!
