I just got the sony dsc-w1 or w12 in Europe. A very nice little pocket camera indeed.I am having a problem in movie mode. The camera is set on center focus,when the subject moves from the focus area the camera hunts and trys to focus on anything it can find.Multi focus is not any better . Now we are talking about short little clips and most of it the camera trying to focus.Has anyone used this camera, please offer a solution

If you want to avoid continuous focusing, you can select one of the fixed focus option: 0.5m, 1m, 3m, 7m or infinity.

thanks Herve ,if I set it on 0.5 m does this mean everything from 0.5 m to infinity is in focus the book is not clear on this subject.

No, It means that the focus is locked at 50 cm and that everything is in focus within the range of the depth of field (e.g. between 40 and 65 cm).

So you have to lower the aperture to increase the DOF (I don't thing you can play with the aperture in video mode ) or use the wide-angle of your zoom, this is much more easy )

I thing that if you use the 7m setting there is a great chance that the infinity is within your DOF.

I thing it is time to make some testing with your camera to feel confident. Use a tripod to be sure that the sharpness is not disturbed by your movement .

thanks Herve for your help. I love this little camera.It fits in you pocket no problem. Check out my post in POW( friendship) this was taken with the sony.
