Just wondering if anyone can offer an opinion: we have a 300D which gets a lot of use, but it's a little too large to carry all the time so I'm looking for a pocketable digital camera. My pet peeve is shutter-lag (something you don't have to worry about most of the time with the DSLR)...

Can anyone recommend a decent model which can capture candid moments quickly?

I've been looking at a few of the lower-end Canon models, but perhaps there are better options...

Howdy!

I'm led to believe that the Ricoh Caplio RZ1 has the best shutter release response time.

I'm also on the market, looking for a digital camera with the lowest possible lag, coz there are so many moments which are just lost, whilst waiting for the camera to focus blink.gif and expose.

Cheers,

I've got a Canon A80. Lovely camera, but it takes a while to do its metering, focus, focus a bit more, brew a cup of tea, put its feet up, etc... Not the camera for candid shots. Since most of these are basically the same chips with different camera bodies and optics, I'd suspect other Canons would have a similar problem.

Graham.

ohmy.gif i HAVE bought a s/h s602z fuji and it too is a smashing camera and the video and macro are out of this world. It too is not the camera for candid shots as the time lag is like watching paint dry. I took a picture of my son last night (whos two) putting on his hat. When the picture took the hat was on the floor!! still if you have the time to set up the shot its a nice camera but not one for those quick action spur of the moment shots.
