I'm hoping someone has a suggestion for me or maybe an explanation. I was changing batteries in my Fuji 3800. There was a loud popping noise and now it won't work. Don't know what happened. It wasn't the batteries - they look fine. The bottom of the camera was quite warm. Any ideas? These were alkaline not rechargable.

Sounds like something has short-circuited somewhere - not quite sure if the batteries are the cause or not. I presume you have taken the camera back to where you bought it?

Alkalines don't build up the kind of voltage to fry the camera. The flash capacitor usually develops a serious charge from the batteries. I suggest you check that. Digicams also consume a lot of power, especially the CCD and the LCD panel. The cuircuits that power them could possibly burn out. These would be the second most probable possibilities. Though, the "popping" is something a faulty capacitor does.
