I have a rebel XTi and was going to buy a wide angle lense. I was buying Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom. But after I placed the order (expresscamera) and called to confirm, I was offered the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8-4.0 DG High Speed Compact Zoom Aspherical Autofocus Lens for the same price as the canon ($539). The Sigma says in the site $599. They also offered me the 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 DG Macro Super II SLD Autofocus Lens for 1/2 price, $300 from the $599 price listed. They said these lenses are still not available in the US and they got them in advance. I just bought my camera and do not know much about lenses. Are this good lenses? I could not find any reviews on them.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

jrod, what other lenses do you currently have?
And what kind of subjects do you want to take photos of?
The answers to those questions will be a big help in your decision.
