The button broke off my Sony DSC W70 over the weekend and I have the button and spring components. I want to find the least expensive way to fix it. My one year warrenty is up! I have been reading that this seems to be a somewhat common problem with the SonyCybershots. Someone else with a Sony DSC-H2 ordered the following: Release Assembly part #: X21083262 from Sony I tried to search for a Release Assembly for my particular model # but did not see it but pictures shown on the site that mentioned this part look exactly like mine.

Does anyone know if the same Release Assembly will work for my camera?

Thanks!

I called Sony and found out the part that I needed was a1166159a which costs $43.03 plus $6.95 shipping

So I went ahead and ordered it and will put attempt to fix it myself if possible. If not I will take it to my local Camera fix it shop.

I can't believe that they charge $15 for my camera's schematic ~ so i didn't buy that!

No it will not work. The button from DSC-W70 is part of a whole control switch block assembly. The shutter release button for the DSC-H2 is just plain button release (x-2108-326-2)

I wish they would have told me that on the phone! I got the switch block assembly and not the release assembly! This looks more complicated to put on so now I have to find a repair shop afterall. Ugh Ugh Ughhhhhhhh!

I am so upset. The camera repair shop people said that they don't want to touch it. It looks like my choices are: Pay $180 to have Sony do it plus hopefully still get my $50 back to go towards that, or
repair it myself, or
pitch it and buy a new one (NOT SONY!!)
or try to fix it and if I can't then buy a new one.

Any advise out there?

There's a massive discussion thread about that problem here:
