I have a second hand sony A100 with a 18-70mm macro lens, and I'm happily experimenting with what I can do. I'm really impressed by the fact i can get good pictures of teh children without sticking the camera up their noses! we also have a Canon Ixus 70, which is a wonderful compact camera (I love it, it's brilliant) which is perfect for keeping in a pocket for capturing a great moment. I'm hoping to turn semi pro at some point, so all ideas and constructive criticism is very very welcome!

Hi, I'm looking at a couple of slr's second hand at the moment, and as I can't find reviews of one of them I thought I'd ask you guys (and guyesses wink.gif ) the 2 cameras are Canon EOS 300 and the Nikon D80. I know that they aren't the top flight models, but that doesn't worry me so much. I'd appreciate your input on this biggrin.gif

My first SLR digital was the Minolta 5D, the fore-runner of the A100 as Konica Minolta sold their SLR business to Sony. My wife now happily uses the 5D. I have not owned the A100 but the A700 is fantastic...I am firmly in the Sony camp.
I rarely get into any debate on "best camera" as everyone has their own ideas. And there are more Canons and Nikons.
I will recommend getting a body which has image stabilisation built in so that you do not need expensive image stabilised lenses. This means Pentax, Olympus or Sony ....john

If the Canon you mean is the original digital Rebel, it takes good pictures. Further versions of that line have made it easier to use the controls to get the pictures. Many people view the 350 as the best in the line, but having gotten superb quality of pixels (etc.) from the 400, that's my favorite Rebel.

The D80 is a fab camera. Heavier, though, I believe, than the 300.
