I am so upset about this all and would like to know who makes the best point and short camera out there?

Cost $375 to $400.

All around camera Good Low Light and Good Sunlight

Megapixels 8 or higher

Optical Zoom 4 to 10

Image Quality Good to Very Good

No particular brands

No particular models

Packet size Camera, one that you don't need to put around your neck

If you was to help a friend in buying a Pocket Camera and they wanted a very good one that fit all round use which camera and model you you gave them advise on?

Why so upset? Did somebody say something that caused you to buy something that turned out to be a lemon? Or do you mean frustrated because there are so many choices?

A good source of information might be the PhotographyBlog reviews section, which I believe you can link to through the home page.

I've only used one p&s camera, the Canon S5Is, that is 8mp at least. Even though it is 8mp, it's a smaller sensor than in a DSLR, thus each individual pixel cell is smaller. So in order to take pictures of darker areas (raising the iso), they increase power to the cells, which ultimately results in more noise. As far as I know, all P&S are subject to this, an inherent shortcoming.

On the other hand, they are very light and versitile, containing from 36-430mm worth of lenses, on average, within their one little package. Some have nifty fold-out screens that move around (the S5 does), which is great when you want to put it down by a flower and take a macro shot. The best ones can accept an add-on flash, they have a hot shoe (and also a pop-up flash).

The S5 can't fit inside a shirt pocket, but can inside some coat pockets. They also sell accesory adapters so you can use regular filters.
