Can anyone help and ignorant Englishman [ that's me] and tell me what is the French "ecta" "xta" hecta" or whatever format is and spelling and how to convert from JPEG TIFF BMP etc.

As far as I know there are NO specific french file format.
I suppose you have the file extension of the file you want to convert (to or from) ?
It should be nice to have the name of the application that write or use such file format.

Yep .Thanks for that. I speak a little French and when I sent a mail in my bad French I discovered they were talking about EktaChrome[have I spelt that wrong?] in other words slides or transparencies or in French "diapositives",
So all is solved.

If you added the Chrome it was much more easy to understand that you where speaking of slides. I was sure I had already heard the Ekta something before.

For example Kodakchrome is also a well known "positive" film and from the same manufacturer.
