PRESS RELEASE: introducing The Black Snapper - Your daily dose of inspiring photography from around the globe, starts August 1, 2009, please read details below.
INTRODUCION ACTION: we are giving away 8 original fine art C-prints of a photo made in the Democratic Republic Congo by Diederik Meijer, you can participate by registering here
The Black Snapper is building an online community of photography professionals (photographers, photo editors, museum curators, art gallery curators and photo festival curators and commercial art buyers), allowing them to share their views, inspirations and the trends that are important to them by being our guest curator/editor in chief for one week.
Each day one photographer will be presented in a dedicated slideshow comprising 8-14 images. Each guest curator programs one week at The Black Snapper by selecting seven photographers, one for each day. The Black Snapper will be a stage for emerging talent from around the world. The basic thought behind our approach is that we combine the speed of internet with the quality filters that our guest curators impersonate. The help of guest curators creates a filter that selects quality out of excessive clutter (the basic problem with internet content these days). Having multiple guest curators creates objectivity, there will not be a single person whose individual taste and preferences dominates the content.
Guest curators will motivate/explain their selections and will present themselves in seven questions and answers. They will discuss their taste, trends important to them and the kind of photo talent they are interested in. With this project, we want to support emancipation, allowing photography from Africa, Asia and South America to be seen as well.
The website will refresh daily at 00:00 on the international dateline and will have an archive section.
The Black Snapper will go live on August 1, 2009, we are currently building the website. We have placed a preview at: www.theblacksnapper.com. Please note that functionalities are not active on this preview page, it is meant to show you what The Black Snapper will look like as from August 1.
For our opening month, we are presenting photographers from Australia, Bangla Desh, Central Europe and The Netherlands.
