Hi
Hope this is of some help to you in deciding which lens to buy.
When looking for a wide angle to suit my first digital canon body , my first choice was 15 to 30 ( note: f3.5 - f4.5 )
but on the day of purchase i changed my mind, it really is a heavy lens (nearly 1.5lbs ) so i opted for 17 to 35 (note f2.8 - f4) 82mm filter on this lens can be expensive, only 13.5 oz in weight.
I only kept this lens 7 months for various reasons.
I now use a Canon 17 to 40 L series (f 4 ) which is supperb if you can find one at the right price buy it, you will not be disapointed.
also i use a 14mm F2.8 but on very few ocassions, this lens needs to handled with some extra care as the large front lens can not be protected with a filter (similar to 15 - 30 in this respect) as far as i recall.
other lens worth considering is the18 to 55 s kit lens sometimes supplied with the 300d body , but this will only fit the 300d and if you ever upgrade to other canon dig slr cameras it wont fit.

I also use the Canon 17-40mm with great results on the 10D.

I have and love the canon 10-22, It is a true wide angle lens for the 300d.Don't forget the 1.5 crop factor. This lens will give you 15-33mm. A
17-40 is actually 25-60mm on the 300d.If that is wide enough for you then go for it.

To everyone who doesn't own a 300D / 350D / 20D, bear in mind that the Canon 10-22mm lens uses the new EF-S mount and WON'T work with your Canon DSLR.

The 10-22mm lens will only work with the 300D / 350D / 20D digital SLR cameras - I think that's clearer!

Yes, plus the as yet unreleased Sigma 10-20mm and Tamron 11-18mm lenses.
