There's a good review of the FZ100 here, which points out one weakness - shooting in low light. Although perhaps that is something that the FZ150 cures, as the previous poster noted that is better (though you might be able to get the older FZ100 quite cheap second hand).

Another interesting point the reviewer brings up is the fact that the video format the FZ records in is compatible with Panasonic Viera TVs and Blu-rays etc, so you can play directly off the memory card using those. Depending on what TV you have, that could be a factor worth bearing in mind.

Maybe worth taking a look at the Kodak EasyShare M590... it has a 5X optical zoom and according to this review where it wins an award, "high quality imagery for an extremely attractive price", and it's also 16mm thin so very compact. (Has sharing functions too).

Or there's the Fujifilm FinePix F500 which has some good write-ups on this very forum - however that is above your price range. But it might be worth pushing a bit more for what is supposed to be one of the best compacts going (15X optical zoom!).

Amazon often makes pretty wild guesses for their release dates... I had seen that this camera was supposed to be out last month, but UberGizmo reckons March for shipping... so hopefully will be out in the next couple of weeks, or April. Seems unlikely it will have effectively been pushed back to June....

The SX210 has a x14 zoom, and an impressive array of features. There's a good write up of it here, which points out that there's a lot of positives, but a couple of niggling negatives, regarding the zoom rocker which isn't smooth at all to use. Still, that might be a somewhat subjective thing.

Exactly how it compares to the HX5 I don't know, but hope that helps, anyway!

In Topic: Cannon 500d Or 550d Or Sony A55?

There's a review of the 500D here, which might be of interest... it points out that the frame rate has indeed been lowered to 20fps for full HD, but you can shoot at 30fps in 720p. The camera also gets an award.

Hope that helps...
