Full Version: Waterproof/tough Camera

hi all, i have been on the look out for a waterproof camera that will be good for snorkelling, using in a pool, on the beach etc and i have narrowed it down to 2 cameras.

these are the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT2.

things that i want are good picture quality above all else, i do like the panoramic feature on the Sony but i am slightly put off by the lack of depth you can take it, which the FT2 beats the Sony hands down.

while i might not ever use the camera at the depth the FT2 can go to it is nice to know i can if i need, but if the Sony is the over all better camera then im sure it will be good enough for my snorkelling needs smile.gif

can anyone shed any light on these 2 cameras and what they think is the better of the 2 smile.gif

I don't snorkel, but I have used the Canon Powershot D10 out in the rain. It's supposed to be good to 33ft. Sorry, I can't advise about the others.

my friend is using Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5, but he doesn't do snorkel either but he uses it to shot fishes in the human aquarium...so maybe that one is good : , cant say anything on the second one.

Both of these cameras have comprehensive reviews on this site, don't know if you saw them:

I do a lot of underwater photography, but because I do it scuba diving I need something that goes lower than 10m. I have a underwater case for my Fuji Fd50, which I have had for a few years and I get really good results with it. The advantage of the underwater case is that you can keep it in the on the beach and when in the sea, but then the rest of the time it is just a normal compact camera again. These cameras have glowing reviews for what they are, tough waterproof cameras, I really have no idea they compare to regular compacts for taking pictures the rest of the time.

Hey, my friend bought one from these guys: http://www.seaandsea.com/

all good from his point of view, however he purchased housing for his Nikon.. not sure if they can provide you with the one your after but worth looking at I reckon.

Good luck

I guess they both perform well; I've read their reviews and I think just choose either one of them.
