kmscameras
Hi,

We have just launched our online store and photography resource area at:

www.kmscameras.co.uk

The Store
We sell digital Cameras and accessories at competitive prices. All of our stock is from reputable, manufacturer approved, UK distributors and carries full UK specification and warrantees. Our customer's personal information is protected through our secure server.

We are a family business and are committed to providing a high quality shopping experience and customer service.

The Resource Area
We are also keen photographers and so wanted to create a resource area that we hope will provide photographers with an area to find the information that they are looking for.

We are very keen to find out what people think to our site and all comments are very welcome.

Many thanks,

Myles

retail websites all have the same options, info, etc etc. what is comes down to is service for me. whether email or phone thats what gets my buy. The general public move on price but these websites never survive and you NEVER get service when required.

I use www.edinburghcameras.co.uk and so does everyone I know in the photography world. Not because they always have stock, or the cheapest prices but because I know I won't be buying something they forced down my kneck. It'll be right for me. Thats what matters!

I am very sorry if you have had bad service from other online camera retailers in the past but I do not think that you should make the assumption that all sites are automatically going to let you down.

Being a photographer and shopper myself I agree entirely that after sales service is extremely important and would also add that it is important to ensure that you are also getting the quality of product that you expect and not a grey import which is how some sites keep the prices down.

www.kmscameras.co.uk is committed to providing quality UK spec products with full manufacturer warrantees. We intend to provide our customers with the very best of after sales service which will be facilitated by the high level support we receive from our authorised distributors. Being a small family business we can deal with each sale personally and follow it all the way through the process.

We will certainly not force anyone to buy a camera that is not suited to them. We are at present in talks with an independent reviewer so that we can provide our customers with an independent review and star rating for each camera that we sell.

My advice to people would be to research the company that you intend to buy from using tools such as Pricerunner’s etc review system and to prioritise the sites with the best positive feedback. It is also always worth sending the company an email to get in writing that the products you are buying are UK spec and to check their stock holding.

I would also strongly suggest reading as many independent product reviews as you can and try to physically try the camera(s) you are interested in in a high street shop. Once you have made your choice then look for a site with decent customer service and a reasonable price. Be wary of recommendations from retailers as some less reputable companies may try to lead you towards a camera that suits them. Always be armed with the information that you have put together yourself.

Whilst some other sites do provide some information on photography we hope that when completed our resource area will provide our visitors with all the information and links that they need to help them get the most from their photography. I'm not sure if you had a look in our resource area. We feel that our "How to..." guides at http://www.kmscameras.co.uk/acatalog/How_to.html provide visitors with useful information and have no links whatsoever to our shop area.

We hope to be providing our customers with great service for a long time to come.

I have had a quick mooch over your website and think that it looks pretty good.

I have a few comments though.

- There appears to be quite a mix of coverage for various manufacturers. Some have many products and others have none. Why is this?
- Are you planning on adding more accessories? People generally like to buy camera kit in one go (camera, memory, case etc.) from one place.
- I would add 'under construction' to areas where no info has yet been added.

Aside from that though, it looks good.
I like the POTM idea and the resource area seems to be informative enough. I am relatively knowledgeable on cameras and things like shutter speed/aperture etc. but can see how this could be a bonus for someone looking to find a quick bit of info.

I disagree with Rustydavo's take on things, but he seems to be having a go at websites in general and not necessarily yours? I think that websites differ massively, with some obviously being set-up merely as a 'shop' and no more. There are many websites I have visited (not necessarily photography related) where I have barely looked for more than a few seconds as the design is so bad, or the naviagetion really poor.
I don't see how a website can 'force something down your neck' as it is purely a one way thing. You navigate through a site and can leave on a whim. It is a very fickle way of shopping.
Perhaps Rustydavo has a vested interest in edinburgh cameras, as it is mentioned on almost every post by him I have looked at since joining this forum about an hour ago biggrin.gif. Could he be the creative director of the site; I have just looked around the site and he is called David Russell???
