I have a Canon EOS 400d and I would like a backup battery,how safe is it to buy a compatable one to replace the original NB-2LH battery? Thanks. Ron Pearcy

Ron, the replacement batteries work fine. I bought an extra one and use it in concert with the original in the battery grip (that's cool, too, if you can spend a few extra pounds, dollars, rubies, whatever).

I've never had any problems - can recommend Chris' suggestion re battery grip.

I also purchased a replacement battery and have no problems. I charge both my batts and rotate between the two.

Your concern is uncalled for, but there are good and bad replacement batteries in market, choose the right one carefore. Some site recommend: replacement camera battery in US replacement camera battery in UK replacement camera battery in CA
