I sent my images to this company http://www.first4fotos.com/.

Most of them came back excellent but some had the tops of heads cut off. They did them again with the heads ok, but the size of the prints were now smaller than my usual 6x4. They say that the reason is to do with my camera settings - but it is a brand new, hardly used Canon S3. Is that true ?

I bought a canon s3 for my daughter and have "borrowed" it on several occassions. I notice that it is very easy to change the image resolution without noticing, which is possibly what has happened. At lowest resolution the photos won't be very good at large print size. Always keep the image resolution/quality at highest, and check regularly that you haven't accidentally changed it. It uses more memory but end results are worthwhile.

Just another thought, it is possibly to select wide/panoramic images too, which would have to be cropped to fit the standard 6 x 4.

Thanks donmac, you have really helped. This digital stuff is really getting to my head, but I suppose there's no turning back now.
