Need help in the use of S-Spline Pro. Went to their website and the Q/A section is nothing more than a selling tool....have contacted them and only received vague answers. I need to know the basics of enlarging a photo. We do a lot with photos and would now like to do tile mosiacs (anymore info would seem like an ad). This is what I am doing wrong:
Scanned photo at 300dpi AND 1200dpi (original size is 4x5) at 100%
Saved photo as jpg AND bitmap (thats now up to 4)
Opened in S-Spline Pro
Enlarged photo to 16x20 (all four saved photos)
Changed the dip to 100, 300, and 600dpi
Saved each as jpg and bmp (now we are up to eight)
PROBLEM: Each and every save is "fuzzy"
Only constant is size...original is 4x5 new is 16x20
Tried different combinations of dpi with same results from all.
Only conclusion I can come up with is either I am expecting too much from a program that is supposed to increase photo sizes to whatever I need. Or most likely, I am doing something wrong. So if anyone uses this program, could you possibly help me out?

I suggest you have a look at Qimage at www.ddisoftware.com
It does fantastic size interpolation and can automaticaly layout tile panels.

I don't know if it's too relevant, but I was reading one of the mags tonight (DCM I think) and they said in an article that Alamy (stock library) recommend the use of Genuine Fractals to make the submitted images up to the required 48mb minimum.

Alamy do reccommend that particular program, but I use S-Spline Pro to upsize my images for Alamy with no problems.

Having tried nearly all the uprezzing programmes I can thoroughly recommend the new SizeFixer from Fixer labs - I had some remarkable results, particularly when wanting to crop out of a photo and then produce a decent sized print.

S-Spline used to be one of the best, but at very high upsizes it can get 'cartoony'

Interesting - I have a review copy of SizeFixer on my desk! I'll check it out soon...

I wonder if you should do a comparative review of the diffferent packages?

I've done a few (far from scientific) tests with the demo versions and to my eye there was very little to choose between Genuine Fractals and S-Spline Pro. QImage didn't look quite so good (though it wasn't that noticeable) but it is a lot cheaper, which might be rather tempting.

I wasn't upsizing the pictures enormously (1.5x to 2x mainly) and it did seem that the type of image had some bearing on the the perceived results.
