Does anyone use this Sigma lens, if so I would be intersted in your opinions on it. I would be using it as a walkabout/potrait, and indoor sports lens.

It will be used on a D300 so it will have a x1.5 crop factor. From what I have read it seems to be a good bit of kit.....Nikon don't make anything oon the same zoom range and what they do have is about twice the price. The Sigma has a constant F2.8 available from 50-150, which seems hard to find in zooms, I think this is supposed to be in Sigma's Pro' range. I have heard back fro a user who says the HSM is very rapid, and says it is a good performer and is very sharp.

That's Sigma's strength, providing 80 or 90% of the performance at up to 50% cheaper

Good lens for the price. Should do you fine with the D300.

Hi Steve- I only have two lenses- the Sigma 50-500 F4 to 6.3 for birds and the 17-70 for landscape walk-around.
The "Bigma" chose itself as the only one in the class.
The 17-70 was one third the price of the Karl Zeiss Sony lens. My photography is not going to be improved that much by the price difference (which I spent on an Epson 2400).
From what I have seen and read, I agree with Mark on the quality/price equation...john
