Full Version: Film Or Digital?

I'm curious what most of us are shooting with these days - Film or Digital? There's no doubt digital cameras are making their mark in the photographic world, but will film ever become obsolete? I'm think not. unsure.gif

I've shot my last 5500+ frames all on digital. I've occasionally used my film SLR when I've wanted wide-angle shots (wider than 28mm), or for black and white. I've probably exposed less than 10 rolls of film in the last 6 months though.

Shooting almost entirely on digital has meant that:

- I've saved money on film and developing - around £700 when I last calculated it.
- I've taken a lot more photos and experimented more.
- I've improved as a photographer, mainly because I can instantly see where I'm going wrong (or right!)

That said, I am quite tempted by the idea of a cheap medium format kit, as the maximum print size from my 6 megapixel Canon EOS 10D is about 15x10 inches. Any bigger than that requires interpolation in something like Genuine Fractals or S-Spline Pro. I'm still deciding though...

Having exposed and (had) developed 26 films since 1st November 2003 I have to click film.

I have no digital kit whatsoever, I'm still saving for that 10d though smile.gif

26 films in a month and a bit - not bad going!
Were they all medium format though...?

Ah yes, medium format. Something I've always visioned owning. Never took the plunge though. The Mamiya 645 has been my dream camera for many years.

Now we can have the best of both worlds with the Mamiya 645. Not only can you have medium format film, but a digital back as well. What more could you ask?

Alas, If it was only within my budget.

You should check out Ebay - makes it all a bit more affordable smile.gif

I've currently got my eye on this Bronica SQ-A:
