Hi all
I'm looking to buy a new camera. I have no real photographic experience but I run a small company that distributes wide format photographic printers and thought I might as well get to know them as a photographer and printer so I can better advise customers. Also so I can print some of my own family photos to frame. We supply Canon, Epson and HP printers and I was looking to buy the Canon EOS1000. I want to shoot a wide variety of stuff, but mostly portraits and landscapes. Would this be an appropriate camera to get for the uses and for an inexperienced operator like me?
I'm grateful for any feedback
Thanks

It would do very well for a beginning photographer, but if your interests expand beyond the beginner mode, you'd suddenly want more camera (probably). I recommend one step up to the XSi at least (450D), which is still beginner-ish but a bit more expandable, and still reasonably priced.
You may wish to look into Sony or Pentax cameras as well, which come with built in image stabilization.

Thanks Chris
I was going to limit things to Canon (as we sell their stuff it would help our price) or Nikon. Perhaps I should spread the net a bit wider.

Actually, if you're also considering Nikon, then I'd suggest you get the Nikon D40. Go to Ken Rockwell
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40.htm and see his opinion on this camera, then you can also see what they say on fredmiranda.com, which has user reviews. I had it for a while and was incredibly impressed, and it converted me from Canon to Nikon.
Good luck!
