Hi All,
I'm new to the blog, as well as the field. My comment is about hiring out a graphic designer and/or copywriter to layout my promotional materials. I know many of you do it yourselves, but lately, I have been hearing that a true creative can deliver such a clean and professional look to promo pieces.
A very good friend of mine just hired a guy to do her tagline. She was referred by another photographer who used this company for a marketing brochure. She said the prices were very affordable and the work was extremely polished and phenomenal. The company is Loose Leaf Concepts (www.looseleafconcepts.com) - the website is a holding page, right now, but my friend contacted them and they got right to work on her project. Apparently he's worked with a bunch of photographers remotely, so location is never an issue.
I think I might shoot him an email about jumpstarting my business. What are your guy's thoughts on hiring out a professional for a high-quality brochure or logo? I'm curious to know!

Just a friendly FYI: I ended up getting work done by this company. They are great. They did our corporate logo and it really authenticates our whole company. Their website is now up and running. It's www.looseleafconcepts.com. You'll be able to see my logo up in the portfolio section soon, but there are plenty of other samples of their work on the site.
Anyone looking for any branding or marketing materials should definitely give them a call/shoot them an email. I am so happy I did this and know I'll be getting some other work done in the future. Let the forum know how your experience is if/when you contact them.

I think it's always a good idea to hire a professional. Just because yo can use indesign, illustrator or photoshop doesn't mean that you are a graphic designer. Like with anything if you do it for a profession you learn tips and tricks. There are a lot of concepts that aren't known to the average joe; there's a lot of psychology involved with marketing and design. That's my two cents!
Cheers
