Can I use my digital cameras as a web camera for chatting purposes in yahoo and msn. I have Canon A460. I want to use it for chatting purposes. Can I?

This is something I was asking myself a while back. Not with the A460 but with something similar.

Before you even come to any limitations in the camera's hardware (which may prevent this) you'll probably discover that you cannot find a driver.

Normal webcams (and their software) comply with standards that make them available to use with software that expects input from a webcam. Trying to use a non webcam for this purpose is not going to be easy. For one thing each camera works differently so if anyone was going to write some form of driver for it, you can bet it's not going to be for YOUR model.

There are no benefits anyway really, because programs that send or receive webcam images are restricted to 640x480. I don''t know if this have changed recently.

You certainly wouldn't be able to send high res images.

You'd be better off buying a dedicated webcam.
