Camera: Canon EOS 400D Digital

I've just started using rechargeable batteries in my camera, but the camera does not 'accept' the batteries after they've been recharged.
Yes, they are recharging - I took them to the camera shop to check. They are fully recharged.
I've tried Canon rechargeable, and 2 other brands. None work after the first recharge.

Any suggestions?
