I have a Olympus sp-550uz. I found a problem while I took a picture from a long distance, 5-50km, with the tele end: it can not focus properly so only a blurred picture can I get.

I would appreciate if I can get a reply.

First of all , are you sure that a reason for the blurry is out-of-focus? Yes, out-of-focus can make your image blurred. Another explanation is your camera was shaking when you pressed a shutter. When using tele zoom or many zoom like 12x, only a few movement of the camera can cause the blurred picture.

My suggestion is to try taking a shot with tripod, and see whether you still get the blurred picture. Another way to try is to use smaller aperture. It will give you larger depth of field. To do that, using the A mode from your camera.

More info about Aperture and Depth of Field.

Hope this help! rolleyes.gif

Thanks for your reply.

I used the fixed steady things, such as rocks or big trees, as my camera's support. I took the pictures using the A mode, including the auto focus, and I can hear the focusing noise, which the camera can not foucus. However, I tried a DSLR which works fast and got a very nice picture.

I appreciate if you can give any advice.

I think the sd-550uz model has some focusing problems. Look at this review. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/olympussp550uz/page18.asp
