hi, im quite new to photography and need some help from what i presume is going to be a fairly knowledgeable group.

i've recently done a very quick photography course that was required for my work and its got me desperate to get a good camera and take some photos. ive always used compacts and would like to upgrade to a dslr but entry level or mid level (if i can get a bargain)

on the course i used the Nikon D70 that i found quite easy to get a hang of. Can anyone reccomend a camera (and lens) with similar spec to this around the £400 mark?

also has anyone bought second hand cameras? i had a look at graysofwestminster.com and they seemed to have a good selection. is this a good option or should i buy brand new?
