Hi,

I am planning to buy a digital camera in next few weeks and i have found two good options meeting my needs. First one is cannon powershot sx110 and second is powershot A2100.

However I would like to take suggestions from experts on this.

PowerShot SX110 has got 10x optical zoom and great looks but digic 3 processor and its only 9 megapixels.

PowerShot A2100IS is a newer camera with 12.1 megapixels and digic 4 processor but it has got only 6x optical zoom and it also does not look as good as SX110.

I want to understand on what front i should compromise, should i give importance to megapixels and new processor and choose A2100IS or i should give more importance to zoom and buy SX110.

Please do not suggest any camera of any company other than cannon.

Looking for some help.

Thanks in advance.

OK. The first difference is a number of pixels. 9MP is more than enough unless you want to print the very huge picture. Many photographers still use 6.1MP Nikon D40 to get stunning photos. So, you should be fine with 9MP from SX110.

The second difference is 10x vs 6x optical zoom. Obviously, 10x is better.

Next, DIGIC III and DIGIC IV. As far as I know, the DIGIC IV handle noise better. In other word, DIGIC IV has better Noise Reduction.

Lastly, the SX110 came with a faster lens (F/2.8-4.3) while A2100 has F/3.2-5.9 lens.

Summary: I think the A2100 is better in term of image quality (thanks to DIGIC IV). In contrast, SX110 is better in term of usability; you got 10x, faster lens, and manual control which allows you to get more creative shots. If I were you, I'll go for the Sx110 or upgrade to SX200 since I like more zoom, and I can practice my photography skills with manual control.

Hope this help!
Good luck shopping.
