Hi,
Just found this excellent website and forum.
I've decided to upgrade from a 'bridge' camera (Fuji 6500fd) to a SLR and have narrowed it down to the Nikon D60 or the Canon eos 450d. I've read lots of reviews on both cameras and I'm still undecided. Any personal experiences of the cameras will be very helpful.
I'm visiting Peru next year and the camera will be used there, mainly on landscape, buildings and plants. Hopefully wildlife too as we're also visiting the Amazon.
We're walking the 4 day Inca Trail and won't be able to charge any batterys up during the trail. Does anyone have any personal experience on how long the batterys last for in both cameras? (the camera specs say 500 for both but I know this can differ.) Also if I take a spare battery ready charged up will it stay charged?
Many thanks
Mel

Haven't owned the D60, but most reviews I read of it say it's an able camera, but sort of a 'beside the point' item, as everything it does is done as well or better by cameras like the D90. I do have a D90, and fully recommend it. Battery life is terrific. I have the battery grip, so there's two batteries. I took over 2000 photos on a vacation, and still had plenty of battery power (so a single battery should give a minimum of 1000 photos without charging).
I've owned the 450D, in fact it's the one I traded in for the D90. It does everything in usual Canon style, and won't let you down. Not as much battery power as the D90, though.
Best of luck on your decision. Coming from a bridge camera, you can rest assured that any of these machines will seem like a quantum leap upward for you.
