A very important factor that has not been mentioned in the post above is the very important factor of using giclee varnish. Varnish should be applied to the canvas before it is stretched.

Why you ask??

> Allows the canvas to soften and therefore it can be stretched extremely tightly onto the frame. It should bang like a drum once stretched.
> Protects the image from been scuffed damaged if people brushing past it on the wall.
> It adds additional Uv protection to the image, along with pigment inks the canvas should then not fade for over 125 years.
> Makes the inks vibrant.
> Comes in Matt, Gloss, Or satin finish so whatever the preference it should be right for your image.

Many companies no longer use giclee varnish because it is expensive and it takes time to apply and dry. Many online sites look to dispatch the same day and by adding varnish they can not do this.

If you are looking for high quality photos on canvas and acrylic frames then take a look at the imagebox. All there canvas prints are printed onto quality 380 gsm cotton canvas and are varnished before they are stretched. A quality product doesn't need to cost the earth. We also specialise in canvas prints with floating frames and acrylic prints.

Excellent point Gilroy - Very few companies are using the correct varnish (if any) and are rushing the canvases out the door. We at Watson Media agree with The Image Box that time and care should be taken in printing, varnishing and framing the canvases and would rather take a couple of days to do this correctly and give our customers the very best canvas product available.

You can check out our website Premier Canvas Collection - printing digital photos on canvas (yours and ours)

Keep up the good work!

PS We currently have a competition to win a canvas on till 31st May
