Vincent did a very good review of the Canon's ip5000 I learned that he will not be doing a side-by-side comparison with the ip4000. I am considering the purchase of one of these as a general 'all purpose printer', I wondered which one to go for.

Is the ip5000 worth the extra cash compared to the ip4000?

This was to replace my ever clogging Epson C62 which has been replaced once by their dealer under warrenty and the same fault appearing in approximately the same period of time.

As for Canon's ip5000 and Epson C62 , I suggest another way out. You can outsource yuor printing. We can send quality prints to your doorway:-)
