I find that the best package for resizing and renaming images thats also free in Irfanview. The amount of options available to use for a free package is amazing, plus you can do them in big batches too!

Its by far the best and totally free imaging package on the market! Really play with there options when you do batch processes and you'll find you can really customise the quality and size for any scenario.

Download it from there website http://www.irfanview.com/ or simply go to a download site like downloads.com or tucows.com.

I do all my resizing in Photoshop or Photo-mechanic. In Photoshop, you open the image, go to "Image" then go to "Image Size". You'll want to change your DPI to 72 for web images, for print, I leave my DPI at 300. The size of the photo can be changed in inches or pixels. For the web, you'll want to change the longest size to the max pixels allowed on the site you're posting it to. Usually under 1000 pixels. You can also "save for web" to reduce your file size of your images further. The photo has to be converted to 72 dpi before you can do this.

Have you thought about setting the size you want from within the camera itself? All my cameras let me choose from a wide range of sizes. BobWed

Before I got Photoshop, I used to use Picasa - i think Google make it, but it's free, and has a lot of functionality including resize. You could also look up the Gnu Image editor, GIMP (silly name, amazing free product!)

No, myself and all the Charleston Photographers I work with use Lightroom. Photoshop can be good for single image editing in my opinion. /but really Lightroom has come a long way.

Just spend the money and get a good program like Lightroom. Many printers come with picture software as well.
