Hi,

From what I've read on many other forums, Microdrives are not reliable at all. They have small mechanical parts that can easily move if the drive is shaken... This is why even if it is more expensive, it is always better to buy Compact Flash cards, because the chances of losing your pics are much lower (plus the transfer speeds are much faster !)

In your case, sounds like you've lost your data for real. And I think there is not much you can do about it ! I heard there are some "data recovery" services on the internet : you send your defective drive, and they try to recover its content. However, I don't know if they do it with microdrives... A few exemples :
www.drivelabs.us/
www.drivesavers.com/
www.harddriverecovery.org/
www.datarecoverygroup.com/

There are a lot of companies like that on internet... Perhaps they can help !

Good luck, and keep us informed !

Thank you for your help. I just don't understand why one picture has survived, but it does sound like he has shaken it because there is now a hand icon in the viewfinder.

If I recall correctly the hand icon on the M603 is just an indicator that the shutter speed is too slow to take a sharp picture. I don't think it's anything to do with your microdrive problem.

Hi,

Mark is correct with regards to the hand icon. I have a Finepix S602 Zoom and the owners manual says "There is a strong likelihood of camera shake because the shutter spead is slow."

My camera has the 1GB microdrive and I have to say,I have had no problems as yet with it.

I hope you managed to recover your photos.

Hi,

Unless the files on your microdrive have become corrupted I would not be surprised if you can retrieve most of them.

The microdrive is basically a hard drive and unless you have formatted the drive I would put my neck on the line and say you can still get your pics back.

What you need is some data recovery software and copy what you can off the drive onto your pc. I have tried it on an ibm microdrive and cf card and what was deleted was recovered, no problem.

If your microdrive has had it hardware wise then it'll cost a lot to get it back. I wouldn't attempt to see if the microdrive is still working by trying to save photos on it, you'll lose the pics you're trying to save.

Email me, depending on your location you might want to get in your car and let me try to get them back for you.

Hi,

I have used BadCopy Pro from http://www.jufsoft.com/ to recover, seemingly, lost pictures from smart media cards in the past. It claims to work with all types of media.

You can download a demo copy and try it. If it works you wil then need to buy it to be able to save the files. You can do this online for about $40.

i have made about 2100 pictures in about 3 weeks on a microstor 2,2Gb in my sony dsc-f828. i had no problems at all.
Recover techiques
I read that freezing a drive will make it readable for about an hour. IF all is lost that might be a last course idea to try...
I have a 2.2 Gig microdrive and have had no trouble with it so far.
But you have to treat them very careful.

You cculd try this software if you haven't already shot other photos on that microdrive. Handy Recovery, hope it helps.

Hello,

the only answer to lost or damaged photos on a flash card is to use a recovery program IMMEDIATLY after the damage is seen.

I have one free biggrin.gif that I have tested on smartmedia cards: it recovers everything after the format of the card. ohmy.gif

This the internet adress:

Download it, you never know... cool.gif

Digging out the 3 year old topic is not going to help the user who needs recovery at that time.
But these kind of advice will help those members who are looking for the photo recovery software.
