Male Barn Owl

Male Barn Owl

I had been aware of Barn Owls in this area for many years and decided that this year I would dedicate myself to capturing these beautiful birds. Initially I didn’t get very many images as it was early mornings and very low light. Weeks of cold mornings and numerous flasks of tea later the daylight hours became longer and I started to understand the Owl’s routines. I had by this time captured some really lovely images of the Owls in flight but had yet to get that perfect image of them sat on a post. I had noticed that of an evening both the Male and the Female would often leave the barn and fly to a particular post to enjoy the warmth of the last few minutes of sunshine. I positioned myself behind a stone wall for cover and waited. The Male Barn Owl flew straight to the post and I was lucky to be able to spend about 15 minutes photographing him.
