I am not sure...could have been the polarizing filter on my lens, could be the sun on the water...the lighter colors on top of the rainbow setting off the darker shades...l noticed the same phenomenon in vab's 'Gods paintbrush'...I know I am an adult...but in reality I am just a big kid with money...
Bobwed - This different shading either side of the rainbow is standard for rainbow shots not sure why but its always there - you ill see it in every rainbow photograph.
Depending on the angle of the shot.
