This is another image from the creek that feeds Lake Katherine. The lake is frozen but the warmer water rushing in the creek, must be 32 degrees, is flowing down from the Calumet River nearby. Still further on is Lake Michigan which remains a constant 32 degrees. Surface ice is always present. The cold air had my eyes tearing up so much that it wasn't till I got home that I saw I had my manual settings reasonably correct. The digital realm sometimes lets you see a little magic happening before your lens eye even if your own eyes are welling up so much water you might miss the supernormal.
Very interesting colors as the water plays over and around the rocks. Like that icy mantle around the ice mound.
If I may, this seems an exceptional shot in another respect I can relate to. That being shooting a subject in half shade and half light. Drives a histogram nuts! As I learn manual mode I am paying much more attention to the histogram than when I used auto modes. I am seriously wondering if worrying about the histogram is worth it. I can only imagine what yours must have looked like for this capture. This is a beautiful capture. Glad you ignored the histogram. Thanks.
