This is the memorial statue for the Royal Scots Greys who left Edinburgh in 1899 to fight in the South African War. Unveiled in 1906 by Lord Rosebury, it stands proudly in the western part of Edinburgh's Princes St Gardens, opposite Frederick St.
Indeed it is a nice pic, I think those hairs are bird preventing things, I've seen some of them on heads of statues in France once.
