I don't do editing, so it is very hard for me to comment with any understanding of what this represents and how you did it or if you did it well. But, I like the affect where you've somehow seemed to have layered the all blue background to the pier and then colorized from the pier to the foreground. Makes for an eye-catching affect. Yes, the distance is made even more ominous by the bluing. Seems as if it is a shadowed ominous sky rolling towards the fun filled pier. A nice creation and affect. The photo seems like an electronic painting.
For me is more interesting the second plan - the one with the mountains, the clouds & the boat. I think the people from the coast affects the value of this shot.
