1830 Stage Schedule and Tariff

1830 Stage Schedule and Tariff

This old 'time table' was found in an secondhand book store which specialized in antiques. The distance from Toronto to Hamilton is around 75kms (47 miles) by road. The cost of UK 13 shillings and 9 pence in 1830 is equivalent to CAD/US $950.00 in 2010!! This is based upon the average pay for unskilled labour in that year. The fare on todays commuter train is $9.50 one way. Discounts are available.

Today, outside of rush hours the drive time is 45 mins as apposed to an all day trip!

If anyone is interested in source of the financial information please send me an email on this blog site.
